Depression

What is depression?

Depression is more than feeling sad or down. It’s a medical condition that affects mood, thoughts, and energy, often lasting weeks or months. Common symptoms include loss of interest in activities, changes in sleep or appetite, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, feelings of hopelessness, and in severe cases, thoughts of self-harm. It impacts relationships, work, and daily functioning—but with the right care, recovery is possible.

Our Process

Consultation: We begin with a private conversation to understand your concerns, symptoms, and how depression is affecting your life. This first step helps build trust, answer your questions, and explain how we can work together.

Assessment: Our team uses structured interviews and evidence-based screening tools to identify the type of depression (such as major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder, or seasonal depression) and its severity. We also look for contributing factors like stress, trauma, family history, or medical conditions.

Examination: A licensed psychiatrist conducts a comprehensive evaluation, checking for co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, or substance use. We may also recommend lab work to rule out medical issues (such as thyroid problems or vitamin deficiencies) that can mimic or worsen depression.

Treatment Planning: We create a tailored treatment plan that may include psychotherapy (such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, or supportive counseling), lifestyle adjustments, and, when appropriate, medication. The plan is goal-oriented, flexible, and monitored closely with follow-ups to ensure progress and lasting improvement.
