Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

What is OCD?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition characterized by intrusive, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental rituals (compulsions). These cycles can become overwhelming, take up significant time, and interfere with work, relationships, and daily life. Common examples include excessive handwashing, repeated checking, or seeking reassurance. OCD is not simply a preference for order—it’s a distressing, persistent condition that requires specialized treatment.

Our Process

Consultation: We start with a supportive discussion to understand your concerns, experiences with intrusive thoughts, and how compulsive behaviors affect your daily life. This step ensures you feel comfortable and know what to expect moving forward.

Assessment: A detailed clinical interview and standardized OCD-specific questionnaires (like Y-BOCS) are used to determine the severity and type of obsessions and compulsions. We also explore co-existing conditions such as anxiety, depression, or tic disorders that often accompany OCD.

Examination: Our psychiatrists carefully evaluate for neurological or medical conditions that may mimic or worsen OCD symptoms. If needed, laboratory tests or brain imaging can be recommended in collaboration with your healthcare providers. We also review your mental health history, family history, and response to any previous treatments.

Treatment Planning: We create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your symptoms and lifestyle. This may include evidence-based therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), medication management when appropriate, and skills training for managing triggers. We collaborate with you at every stage, track progress, and adjust strategies for long-term improvement.
