Psychotherapy / Counseling
What is psychotherapy / counseling?
Psychotherapy, often called “talk therapy” or counseling, is a collaborative process between you and a licensed mental health professional. It provides a safe, confidential space to explore thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, understand patterns that cause distress, and develop healthier coping strategies. Therapy can address a wide range of concerns—from everyday stress to complex mental health conditions like depression, trauma, or relationship issues.
Our Process
Consultation: We begin with an open conversation where you share what brought you to therapy—whether it’s stress, conflict, loss, or a specific mental health challenge. This step helps us understand your expectations, preferences, and goals.
Assessment: A structured evaluation of your emotional, behavioral, and social history, along with standardized measures if needed. This allows us to identify underlying issues, clarify diagnoses, and recommend the type of therapy that best fits your needs (e.g., CBT, trauma-focused therapy, supportive counseling).
Examination: Your psychiatrist or therapist carefully examines how your symptoms impact daily life—work, relationships, sleep, and overall functioning. We look for patterns, triggers, and co-existing conditions (like anxiety, depression, or ADHD) to ensure a holistic understanding.
Treatment Planning: Together, we design a tailored therapy plan. This may include weekly or bi-weekly sessions focused on building coping skills, changing unhelpful thought patterns, improving communication, or processing traumatic experiences. If needed, therapy can be combined with medication management for more comprehensive care. We continuously review progress and adjust goals to support lasting growth and well-being.
